Apart from current local and renewable power plants portfolio, Bilgin Energy started investments in oil and natural gas business in 2013. As of 2016, Bilgin Energy began to focus on its activities in this sector by acquiring shares of Genel Energy, which is based in London and is traded on the London Stock Exchange. Currently, 20% shares of Genel Energy is owned by Bilgin Energy.

Genel Energy is focused on oil and natural gas exploration and production in Somali, Tunisia and mainly in Northern Iraq and currently producing oil in 5 regions and exploring natural gas in 2 regions in Northern Iraq.
